Environment Minister Protests to Newsweek
he State Minister for the Environment, Rachmat Witoelar, voiced his disapproval of the July 14 issue of Newsweek Magazine that had Indonesia in the 102nd place on the list of Environmental Performance Index. He said to have received clarification from Yale University and Colombia, which the magazine cited as the sources of the list . “Yale did not publish the index, someone else did,” said Rachmat yesterday.

Corruption Eradication Commission Detains Two Kutai Officials
The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) detained Kutai Kartanegara Deputy Regent, Samsuri Aspar, and Commission II chairman in the Legislative Council (DPRD), Setia Budi, last night. The two officers are suspected of corrupting the social aid fund in the 2005 Regional Budget. This is the continuation of the case involving the imprisonment of Kutai regent, Syaukani Hasan Rais.

Expensive Jakarta
A survey shows that Jakarta is number two on the list of the most expensive cities in Southeast Asia in which to live, following Singapore. The survey also indicates that the living cost in Jakarta is even far more expensive than that of Washington DC.
